CEEC Philosophy
CEEC's Early Childhood Programs are committed to giving young children the experiences they need to become successful learners and contributing members of our community. We believe that all children have a right to high quality care and education.
It is our philosophy that children learn best when they are provided opportunities to interact with developmentally appropriate materials in a rich, well-planned environment. Children are encouraged to explore their world, ask questions, share information, form concepts and build social skills to prepare foundations for later learning. A multitude of hands-on learning materials is available to meet each child’s needs and to encourage each child to build concrete experiences that help use current knowledge to develop new knowledge. Highly qualified personnel that include teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, family service staff, administrators and parents support the children.
Who We Serve
Our Christiana Early Education Center Campus serves a diverse student and staff population and is proud to be part of the culturally-rich Newark community. Approximately 37% of our students are African-American, 32% white, 20% Hispanic or Latino, 6% Multi-Racial, and 5% Asian-American.
Early Childhood Assistance Program (ECAP)
The Christina Early Childhood Assistance Program (ECAP) program offers free preschool for high‐risk, low income 4 year olds that reside in the Christina School District. The ECAP programs encourages parent involvement through volunteering, participating as members of the Policy and Parent Committees, and supporting their child’s growth and development.
The ECAP program is modeled after the federal Head Start program and is required to follow the Head Start Performance Standards.
Inclusion
“Early childhood inclusion embodies the values, policies, and practices that support the right of every infant and young child and his or her family, regardless of ability, to participate in a broad range of activities and contexts as full members of families, communities, and society. The desired results of inclusive experiences for children with and without disabilities and their families include a sense of belonging and membership, positive social relationships and friendships, and development and learning to reach their full potential. The defining features of inclusion that can be used to identify high quality early childhood programs and services are access, participation, and supports.” (DEC/NAEYC, 2009)
Our commitment to quality and inclusive education has earned us the highest rating in Stars for Early Success, the state’s voluntary quality rating and improvement system.
